U.S. Economy…When Will You Get Better?

uncle-sam-bruised-economyYou here about it everywhere: news, magazines, co-workers everyone is talking about how horrible the economy is right now.

Last night President Obama,” told the American people that the “day of reckoning” has arrived for the nation’s economy, which he pledged to not just fix but make stronger than it was before the current crisis.

I hope President Obama is right, I am just wondering how long it will take.  I  understand Rome was not built in a day, nor will our economy.  We are all in panic mode at the moment and I just want things to get better now.

Even with all this panic people are still finding time to go and spend money.  So hopefully all this spending will some how boost the economy and President Obama will do his part and by next year all this panic and trauma will be a memory.  I just hope the banks and everyone else has learned their lessons.

Viral Marketing. Whats The Next Step?

Yesterday I wrote a blog entitled, ” Who Else Is Sick Of  The Octuplets Mom?”  Until yesterday the most views I have had on my modest blog was a little over 50.  Which lets face it sucks.  If you have read any of my other blog posts (and lets be honest you probably haven’t) I am new to blogging and have no idea what I am doing.

Now the difference between yesterdays post and the rest of my others is, I went viral.  Now to all you Internet savvy people and bloggers who do this everyday I understand its not that big of a deal, but for me it is.  So now I am faced with the mighty question any writer faces when seeing any sort of success, “how can I top that story?”

SO IF I HAVEN’T LOST YOUR INTEREST YET here is where my new post for today will really begin.

When Did People Start Celebrating National Pancake Day??

Maybe I have been living under a rock for the past 25 years, but I have never heard of National Pancake Day.  Now IHOP is giving away free pancakes all day in celebration of this holiday.  After researching this day a little more I have found out this day is also known as Shrove Tuesday, or better known to us in the U.S. Fat Tuesday (Mardis Gras).

Most of us know the story behind Mardis Gras and how this is the last day to get your sins out before Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent.  So go eat a bunch of pancakes and hopefully they will help soak up all the alcohol you ingest tonight.  And with the economy the way it is you can use the money  you would have spent on the pancakes on the booze you buy tonight.

Who Else Is Sick Of The Octuplets Mom?

When I first read the news of octuplets being born I was definitely interested in the news.  It is not every day octuplets are born.  However, it has been almost a month since the babies were born, and every where I turn I am reading or hearing about their mother.

I will spare all the details of everything said or written about here because I am sure most of you have heard it a thousand times.  The main issue I have is, she definitely doesn’t have the money to raise all 14 of her children.  So now she is going on shows like Good Morning America to have everyone feel sorry for her position.

The bigger issue should be how could someone on welfare and already had six children be allowed to have in-vitro done.  If you can’t properly take care of your children you already have, how can someone legally get a procedure done to have more children.

I understand this procedure is very helpful for women who have many challenges getting pregnant.  The problem here is Nadya Suleman did not have these problems.  At the end of the day its the tax payers who are paying for people like Suleman to have these procedures done, get money from the government and then get a bunch of publicity (and maybe money from the publicity) done.

Although I definitely have a problem with how Suleman has worked the system, I also understand there isn’t much to do to fix the situation.  After all she has managed to market her problems into national news and even has gotten my interest enough to write a blog about her.  So though I strongly disagree with how she was legally allowed to get in-vitro, she should look into a marketing career and get herself off welfare.

Is Your Chocolate Safe??

As we are all very aware of Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. This day is very stressful for many different reasons. On this day people who are single feel worse for being single, and people in relationships feel the ultimate pressure to get the “perfect” gift.

I have been racking my brain for a while now on what to get my significant other.   So being the internet junky I am turning into, I turned to the web to find some unique ideas. What I found was surprising.  Instead of finding the perfect gift I fell on some new and horrible facts.

The Global Exchange is raising awarness of how the cocoa industry has used, “child trafficking, labor, and slavery for years.”  I never really thought about the connection before but I feel I am doing my part to help raise the awarness.  So please before you buy your honey (or yourself) some chocolate for V-day, make sure its from a good source.

Three Steps To Writing A Great Blog…Or Is There More??

Starting a blog, like starting anything else defiantly has a learning curve.  For me this is my 4th blog entry ever.  I am still much in my learning curve of writing.  I understand the the major outlines of what blogging is all about, but I am defiantly still getting my feet wet.

Making Your Blog Interesting:

This is the challenge I am facing today.  What do I have to say and more importantly, how can I make it interesting.  I could have the biggest story to tell, but if I don’t present it in an interesting way no one will read it.  This is what I have been thinking about to spice up this blog is:

  • Pictures can help tell the story in less words
  • Make my blog entry easy to skim
  • Write catchy titles
  • Write something that intrigues the reader, or makes the reader apart of the blog

Have fun:
I am writing this blog not only to entertain people, but also to have fun myself.   Hopefully soon people will have just as much fun reading my blog as I do writing it.

Please feel free to comment and add steps if need be.  You wouldn’t only be helping me out, but other people who stumble onto this blog as well!

The search for a new home

Being recently engaged has brought on many different questions.  The biggest at the moment is: “where are we going to live?”  We both have our own places, and merging the two together is going to be a big task.  We have too many things to live in a one bedroom,  so now the search begins for a bigger home…

There are many things to consider when looking for a place to live, especially when you are looking to rent.  Things  to consider are: Do you like the carpet?  Can you paint the walls?  How much is the security deposit?  Is the neighborhood safe?

You also have to consider things such as breaking your lease, and if you don’t have to are you going to get stuck with the dreaded two rent payments in one month scenario.  Neither option is pleasant but are part of the dirty task of moving.  Everyone dreads moving but at the end of the day its worth it to have a better place to call home.

This task might be painful at times but we are making the most of it, and are excited to start building a life together.  After all that is the point of getting married.

California Dreamin’

Growing up in Ohio, I always wondered what it would be like to live in California. When I would watch movies based in CA, I was always envious of the characters for being able to live in such a wonderful place where the temperature was warm all year long, and palm trees were everywhere.

After graduating college my itch to live on the west coast was still there, so I started working two jobs and saved enough money to make the big move. Once I had the money, I drove out to Cali and haven’t looked back since.

I have lived in CA for two years now and I am still in awe of this beautiful place I call home. I catch myself looking at the palm trees and still getting excited, or driving by the lavish homes and dreaming of the day I will be able to afford a house here.

Until that day, I will love my little and overpriced apartment I call home.  After all, it wouldn’t be fun if you got everything you wanted right away!

New to the scene

I came across WordPress for the first time today and have decided to give it a go!  I have never been an avid blogger and the whole scene is a little overwhelming to me.   Over the years blogging has exploded and so many people blog these days that you can actually make a living off of it.

I love writing and don’t really know why I haven’t started a blog before today.  I guess I felt like no one really cares enough about what I am doing in my life and or what I am feeling to go for it.  Then I realized who cares what others think and do your own thing, so here I am!

I don’t know what path this blog will lead me down but I am willing to try it and see what happens.    🙂
